The Fire & EMS Commission has decided that all EMS providers will be required to complete the Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness Program within 18 months. Additionally, that this program is to be included in all future Firefighter I and EMT classes.

Further, the Fire & EMS Commission has decided that the Virginia Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations program will be a part of the Firefighter I training to include skill training in spill and leak control and decontamination.

At this same commission meeting the NIMS/Personnel Accountability System (PAS) was adopted and will be integrated into every Firefighter 1 and EMT-basic class delivered in Spotsylvania County.
